Probably smog. I had never seen any my entire life, until I went to China.
From what I was told, when I went there last year it was remarkably clear. This trip you couldn't help but see smog during the day, and it rained a lot, so I can only imagine what it must be like when it's dry.

Interesting. Much of the US used to have more smog, back when we ran bigger budget surpluses and manufactured more.
